WC Electric wins Harbour Days game 6-4 over Quyon

West Carleton Electric won the annual Harbour Days game 6-4 over the Quyon Flyers in Fitzroy Harbour on Thursday night in front of a good crowd.

Steve Cavanagh had the win, with Jeff Barber earning a save. Matt Greer went the distance for the Flyers.

The Electric got on the board first, scoring in the bottom of the second. Derek Barber doubled and scored on Steve Cavanagh's RBI single.

Quyon answered in the top of the third. With two out, Shawn Laframboise singled. Joe McCleary walked and Matt Greer hit an infield single to load the bases. A walk to Randy Peck tied the game, but the 'Trics got out of the inning with a ground out.

West Carleton responded in the bottom of the third, putting up four runs. Michael Cavanagh walked with one out, and Jeff Cavanagh hit an infield single. Shawn Rebertz then walked to load the bases. Jeff Barber then hit a screamer to right-centre, but an excellent catch by Curtis Daley got out, but allowed Cavanagh to tag up and score. Derek Barber then launched a ball deep to centre for a three run homer to make it 5-1.

The Flyer immediately got back to work in the top of the fourth. Earl Kearns walked with one out, but was erased when nephew Jordan hit into a fielder's choice. Dennis McCleary then walked to put two on. Laframboise's three run homer narrowed the gap to 5-4.

Fitzroy scored an important insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. Steve Cavanagh singled and was replaced by pinch runner Adam Rueckwald. A sac bunt by Trevor Barton moved Rueckwald over. Then Jon Daley reached on a misplayed grounder. Rueckwald subsequently scored on Jeff Cavanagh's RBI infield single to make it 6-4 for the Trics.

Jeff Barber came in to shut down Quyon for the final three innings, and the match ended in the top of the seventh on a double play to seal the win for the Electric.

For his strong night at the plate and good work behind the dish, Derek Barber gets the honours as the Caveman's Choice for player of the game.
