Quyon Flyers take both in double dip against Kanata Pirates - DETAILS - AND NOW MORE DETAILS

The Quyon Flyers won both games in a Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader in Carp tonight as the faced the Kanata Pirates. We got two versions of the game report for this one!

Quyon 8 Kanata 3
from Shawn Laframboise
In game one of their Thursday night doubleheader in Carp, Quyon handed the ball to Matt Greer while the Pirates countered with Trevor Lahey.

The Flyers got off to a quick start adding 2 in the first inning.  Greer led off the game with a walk and advanced to 2nd on Dennis McCleary's single.  Both runners scored on a Shawn Laframboise single, who advanced to 3rd on Joe McCleary's base hit.  Randy Peck then hit a grounder to 2nd, but with the runners playing in, the fielder was able to check Laframboise at 3rd before taking the out at 1st.  Upon the throw to first, Laframboise attempted to take home but an alert play and good tag by the catcher gave the Pirates their second out of the inning.  Lahey then got out of the inning with a pop out.

The Pirates got one back in the bottom of the first.  Kevin Schonfeld walked and advanced to 3rd on Aaron Amo's single.  Schonfeld scored on Trevor Power's ground out to 2nd base.

Quyon extended the lead to 4-1 in the second inning.  Curtis Daley led off with a double and moved up 60 feet on Jordan Kearns' bunt single.  Both runners scored on David Hobbs' base hit.

The Flyers added one more in the third.  Joe McCleary led off with a bunt single and stole 2nd base. Lahey retired the next two batters before allowing an RBI single to Daley.  In the bottom of the third, Amo was hit by a pitch but was left stranded.

The remaining 4 runs in the game came via the long ball.  Greer hit a solo shot in the fourth.  Kevin Williams hit one deep for Kanata in the sixth.  Joe McCleary and Randy Peck went deep on back-to-back pitches in the seventh to round out the scoring.

Quyon 8 Kanata 2
from Shawn Laframboise
Both clubs decided to stick with the same arms for game two.  The Flyers again got off to a quick start, adding 3 runs in the first inning.  Greer walked and came all the way around to score as Dennis McCleary reached second on a dropped fly ball.  Laframboise put down a sac bunt that was fielded by the catcher.  With D McCleary's good jump at two and quick speed he was able to come around and score when the throw went to first.  Joe McCleary then went deep for the 2nd time of the night to make it 3-0.

In the second inning Quyon added two more runs.  Hobbs reached base with a single and advanced when Ryley Burns reached on an error to the first baseman.  Both runners scored on Greer's base hit.

Kanata got on the score sheet in the bottom of the second.  Ryan Mitts doubled to right field and scored on a Kevin Williams base hit.

Quyon scored two more via the long ball as Burns went deep in the fourth inning and J. McCleary hit his 3rd of the night in the fifth inning.

The Flyers rounded out their scoring in the sixth.  Daley led off reaching safely when the ball was misplayed by the shortstop.  He came all the way around to score on Hobbs' triple.

The Pirates added one more in the bottom half before Greer got out of a bases loaded jam.  With one out, Al Read and Mitts each singled.  Williams struck out for the second out of the inning.  The next batter also struck out for what would have been the last out of the game, however he reached safely on a passed ball.  Schonfeld then drew a bases loaded walk for the Pirates second run of the game.  Greer then got out of the inning with another strikeout.

With it tight for time, the game finished after six so Quyon could make the boat before it closed.
