Pirates and Twins split doubleheader at Micksburg showcase - UPDATED

The Kanata Pirates and Micksburg Twins split a Greater Ottawa Fastball League doubleheader in the 'Burg on Saturday as part of the Showcase.

In the opener, Kanata pulled off an 11-8 win, with Trevor Lahey earning the win. Joran Graham took the loss in relief of Matt McIntyre.

The second game saw the Twins prevail 3-0. Corey Costello was the winning pitcher, tossing a three-hitter. Trevor Lahey again threw for Kanata.

Micksburg Twins hosted the Kanata Pirates for a day-night doubleheader.

The Pirates won the high scoring afternoon game 11-8.  Matt McIntyre started for Micksburg, pitched 2 1/3 innings, and had relief from Joran Graham.  Trevor Lahey pitched a complete game and got the win.

Marcel Mondoux led off the game with a triple and scored on Kevin Schonfeld's single.  The Pirates loaded the bases with a couple of walks but couldn't score any more in the first.

The Pirates knocked in five more runs in the second inning.  Ryan Mitts and Trevor Lahey led off the inning with a couple of walks bringing up the top of the order.  Marcel Mondoux and Kevin Schonfeld got on with errors to right field and shortstop respectively.  Ryan Mitts and Trevor Lahey scored.  Jon Ferguson walked to load the bases.  Trevor Power and Kevin Williams followed with singles to knock in Marcel Mondoux, Kevin Schonfeld and Jon Ferguson.  The Twins got out of the inning with a double play and a line out to shortstop.

The Twins failed to score in the first two innings and the Pirates led by a score of 6-0.

The Pirates scored another run in the top of the third when Trevor Lahey and Marcel Mondoux hit back to back doubles.  The Twins brought in Joran Graham to pitch and stemmed the bleeding.

The Twins finally got on the board in the bottom of the third when Jamey Mick reached first base on a error and went to second on a wild pitch.  Jamey Mick scored on Chad Costello's two out single.  After three innings, the score was Pirates 6 Twins 1.

Neither team scored in the fourth.  

The Twins scored three in the bottom of the fifth.  Jamey Mick led off the inning with a double but was caught at third on a Joran Graham fielder's choice.  Chad Costello got his second RBI by singling in Joran Graham.  Then with two out, Kevin Humphries hit a two run home run.  After five innings, the Pirates led 6-4.

The Pirates added to their lead in the top of the sixth.  Kevin Williams got a one out single and Duane Bromley knocked him in with a single.  The Twins got three more runs in the bottom of the inning to close the lead.  Brandon Jackson got a one out single.  Kyle Jackson knocked him in with a triple.  Jamie Mick then knocked in Kyle Jackson with a single.  Joran Graham followed with a single and was knocked in by Quinton Rook's two out single.  After six innings, the Pirates lead was cut to one run.  Pirates 8 Twins 7.

In the top of the seventh inning, Marcel Mondoux hit a one out triple and scored when Jon Ferguson singled with two out.  Trevor Power followed with a two run homer.

The Twins tried to rally back in the bottom of the seventh.  Ryley Hennessy reached first base on an error but was cut down at second on Matt McIntyre's fielder's choice.  Matt McIntyre scored on a two out double by Kyle Jackson.  Jamey Mick then reached base on an infield error but Trevor Lahey got Joran Graham to fly out to right to end the game and win the game for the Pirates 11-8.

Caveman Player of the Game - Marcel Mondoux with 2 triples and 3 runs scored

The nightcap saw Corey Costello toe the rubber for the Twins and Trevor Lahey returned to pitch another game for the Pirates.

This was a low scoring affair. The Twins scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Kerr Childerhose led off the inning by getting to first base on an error.  Jamie Mick then hit a double to put runners at second and third.  Later with two out, Chad Costello knocked them in with a single.

There was no more scoring until the bottom of the fifth inning when Trevor Lahey hung a drop ball and Corey Costello hit a home run that ended up on Mountain Road.

That was all the scoring in the game and the Twins won 3-0.  

Corey Costello pitched a three hitter and struck out 16 Pirates.  Trevor Lahey pitched well.  He allowed just 5 hits, only 1 earned run and struck out 8 Twins.
