West Carleton Electric beats Quyon Flyers 8-3 in Shawville

With the the Quyon ball park still soggy with the wet spring, the Greater Ottawa Fastball League game between Quyon Flyers and West Carleton Electric was moved to the Shawville diamond on Thursday night.

The Electric came back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Flyers 8-3. Andy Barber had the win while Matt Greer took the loss.

Quyon scored a pair in the bottom of the first frame. With two out, Matt Greer singled. Subsequent walks to Joe McCleary and Steve McCord loaded the bases for the veteran Randy Peck. Peck singled just past the outstretched reach of the Electric's second baseman, cashing two. Another walk to Dave Hobbs loaded the bases again, but Barber got out of the inning with a fly ball.

Fitzroy got on the board in the top of the fourth. Mike Cavanagh started the inning with a double ripped down the third base line. Jeff Barber as hit by a pitch to put two on and none out, setting up a bunt situation for Trevor Barton. When Barton's bunt was thrown away, Cavanagh scored. A walk to Derek Barber loaded up the bases and Shawn Rebertz's sacrifice fly to right scored JBarber.

The Flyers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on singles by Earl Kearns, Dennis McCleary and Shawn Laframboise which scored one.

WC tied things in the top of the fifth. Andy Barber tripled with one out and scored on an infield single by Barton.

The Electric added three in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The top of the sixth inning saw Rebertz hit a solo home run to start the frame, and Neil Murphy and Jon Daley (both who reached singles) score on Mike Cavanagh's 2 RBI single.

The seventh saw Derek Barber, who had singled, score on Adam Rueckwald's double. Rueckwald subsequently scored on a misplayed fly ball after advancing to third on a ground out.

For his solid game on defense and good night at the plate, the Caveman's Choice for player of the game goes to Mike Cavanagh.
